Abstract


Ghost cell is a dead cell in which the cell outline remains is visible, but whose nucleus and cytoplasmic structures are not stainable Formerly, ghost cell have been considered to represent a form of true or aberrant keratinization simple cell degeneration or enamel matrix but the true nature of these cells has not been determined. Ghost cell may be due to abnormal keratinization, related to ischemia, coagulative necrosis. Calcification may occur in some of the ghost cell and represent dystrophic calcification the aim of this paper is an attempt to describe in detail about the origin, microscopic appearance and histopathologic features of ghost cells.
